I take drives. I like driving. Sometimes to clear my head and sometimes to fill it. This is the road to the falls. Less than 10 miles from our house is the amazing Nojoqui Falls. I am told that it is named after the Chumash (local Native American tribe) village, “Naxuwi,” that was once near there. The modern name is pronounced Naw-ho-wee. Whether you believe the story of the gods answering the prayers of a Chumash Chief with a beautiful woman who floated to the heavens, slowly disappearing, as her flowing clothing turned into the waterfalls or the love story that ended in the couple leaping to their death....the journey to the falls is almost as magical as the falls themselves.
